The
National
Alliance for
Counselors©†
is dedicated primarily to the advancement of the professional
educator, trainer
and clinical supervisor within the disciplines of Clinical Mental Health,
Psychiatric Treatment, Counseling, Education, Habilitation, Criminal
Justice, and etcetera.
This
alliance of advanced educators, trainers, and supervisors, provides
education, training and supervision to their peers (i.e., serving the same
functions) in a variety of sub-disciplines and specialties. The
organizational goal is, in part, to advance the status quo of treatment by
strategically raising the standards through and by which these
professionals are educated, trained and supervised to fulfill the core
functions in their respective roles; new standards and tactics to achieve
the aforementioned functions are of significant focus to this endeavor.
According
to background research, “There is a significant absence of uniform
standards for professional educators, trainers and clinical supervisors in
several disciplines including the field of Mental Health—particularly, but
not exclusively, in the core function activities of Education, Training
and Supervision [of Treatment]…. There is an absence of a functioning
coalescence-to-standardization mechanism and a unifying/organizing body
for ‘multidisciplinary standards of competency in-practice’’. In response
to the forgoing conclusion(s), a
micro-representative sample of advanced professionals educators, trainers
and supervisors formed for the explicit purpose of (a) organizing advanced
educators, trainers and clinical supervisors, (b) standardizing the
research-based competencies/professional activity functions necessary for
heightened professional competence and proficiency, and (c) to develop
valid and consistent methods for evaluating the latter (i.e., “b” above)
via a certification process.
There
is no intention to imply/infer that trainers, educators and supervisors
lack proficiency/ competency, individually or collectively in their
respective function(s). Rather, it is due to their competence that they
are capable of learning and utilizing complex training, teaching, and
supervisory mechanisms and methods. Therefore, the trainers, educators
and supervisors are also able to simultaneously apply the forgoing in
delivering novel and unique training and supervisory content to service
delivery personnel(SDP). Likewise, viewing the SDP as similarly
competent, they are capable of learning and simultaneously applying the
information and techniques when they are properly trained, educated, and
supervised.
The National Alliance for
Counsellors is not affiliated with any other organization or certifying
body at this time. If, in the future, such an affiliation is considered,
it will be subject to the input of the Certified Membership.
