Exemptions &
Exceptions
When an
applicant does not meet one or more of the certification requirements,
petitions/appeals for exemption or exception may be exercised. The
applicant may either (a) submit a “Statement of Justification” to have a
requirement exempted/waved, (b) submit a request for deferment and
forbearance in the review process via a “Letter of Remediation”††or (c)
request Acceptance Through Commendation/Deemed Status via a “Letter
of Justification”.
The Meaning of, and Requirements for,
the Diplomate Status
A diplomate is a professional, who has
been evaluated by an objective board of their peers, as having attained
significant distinction in training, education, professionalism and
contribution to their field, as compared to the general population of
practitioners. Generally, these individuals meet or exceed the upper 10th
percentile rank within their discipline and specialty area(s) with respect
to the latter criteria.
The Diplomate should not be considered a
certification, rather it should be considered as a voluntary process. In
this process, the individual desires an independent and objective
assessment, by a board of their peers, attesting to their continuous
commitment to the highest standards in/of education, training supervision,
ethics, professionalism, and competence. A Diplomate must be a
member in good standing with the Board
and is expected to maintain their distinguished levels of professional
activity— to include examining candidates in the certification and
examination process. Diplomates are the only members eligible to
be either elected, appointed and/or invited to sit in positions on the
Board of Governors. You may apply for Diplomate Status
concurrently with application for certification; provisional certificants
are not eligible for diplomate status until remediation is complete;
at that time they may request a records review, and if found eligible,
will be issued a Diplomate
at their original
Grandfathering fee.
As is the standard industry practice, all
applicants for certification do so voluntarily (i.e., it is neither
mandatory nor required) and in the full knowledge that
certification/membership contains neither voting rights nor retains for
them the privilege to purchase stock.
††
During the remediation period, applicants
under this category are considered provisional certificants
who have full rights and privileges with the exception that their
certificate indicates their provisional status. Immediately
after remedial requirements are met, the member receives
